I’ve been wanting a bulletin board for my home office space. Also a whiteboard and something magnetic perhaps? I really wasn’t fond of the very “white” white boards and generic bulletin boards at the office supply stores. And everything I found that was magnetic or metallic was galvanized. Which wasn’t the look I was going for either.
I was looking for pretty, casual and somewhat unique to my space. So, when I found an old bulletin board from my daughter’s bedroom, I knew I was in business. It was bigger than I needed and had writing on it, but I could work with that!
I used an utility knife and cut it down to the size I wanted, then set about looking for the other elements.
At Amazon I found this great piece of magnetic vinyl that is also a dry erase board—only black! Love it!
I also found a roll of burlap that was the perfect look for the bulletin side of the board. I have used this burlap for a table runner and this project and still have a lot left—bonus! Who doesn’t need burlap for craft projects?
For less than $10, I found a length of picture frame molding at Lowes and I was set to create.
While it isn’t perfect, the “picture frame” I made to go around the board works great. I used leftover paint from my living room because it is such a lovely color and left it smooth with no aging. I like the look for my space.
I used adhesive spray to attach the burlap to one side of the board and the vinyl to the other, then put it all in the frame and –voila!—I have my bulletin board/dry erase board/magnetic surface.
What do you think? Here it is with a few of my favorite peoples’ pictures and some paint chips. I found these adorable markers and magnets—don’t you love them?
