As I was scooping up wet towels and dirty laundry off the bathroom floor, I was really wishing for a fairy to come do this for me. Or maybe I need a wife! Today, many families consist of two working adults. Yet there are still so many housekeeping chores to be kept up with. I don’t know about anyone else, but I don’t like to have to spend my weekend working at home! Every home and every family, no matter how small or large, has needs to be met. Here are five fairies your family and home need:
Five Awesome Fairies
- The Laundry Fairy. How awesome would it be to never have to be responsible for making sure all dirty clothing is picked up from the bathroom floor each day. Really, who has time to deal with wet towels and dirty underwear?! This fairy would be responsible for making sure that all dirty clothing and towels are magically transported to the laundry room, washed, dried and then—PUT AWAY!! Doing laundry is bad enough, but the putting it away just sucks!
- I don’t know about your house, but in ours, we have a Bed Making Fairy who makes sure the sheets are smoothed, the blankets pulled up and tucked in and the pillows fluffed each day. That would be me, because I can’t sleep in an unmade bed. I always say if I ever win the lottery there are two fairies I will immediately hire. One—someone to wash and style my hair each day, and two—someone to make my bed with clean sheets each day! Hey, I once read that Jackie Kennedy required clean sheets even if she only napped on top of the covers! (My adult children don’t even use top sheets—they put on a fitted sheet, throw on a comforter and call it good. I’m pretty sure that they were all switched at birth—they can’t possibly be mine.)
- The Dish Washing Fairy. A radical idea that really can mess up a house if there isn’t one. I’ll confess that I actually don’t mind doing dishes, even by hand when the dishwasher breaks down. It is a meditative experience for me. But the luxury of not only having clean dishes but also put away in the cupboards! Of course, you can always eat on paper plates, but then we get into ….
- The Garbage Fairy. Ladies, I am amazed at this one, because I put a full bag of stinky smelly garbage outside my front door and it magically makes it into the garbage bin—wow! Mind blown. I love this fairy because I hate dealing with smelly garbage.
- The Grocery Fairy, making sure there is always food to put on those clean dishes. Our current grocery fairy always forgets things at the store and must revisit it several times per week. I’m hoping it is not Alzheimer’s kicking in…. It would be nice if this fairy also cooked, but, oh well…..you can’t have perfection in everything. After all, I make a mean bed. ?
