.In October of 2000, an old house on the grounds of Church of The Assumption was turned over to Catholic Community Services. With a dedicated group of volunteers they formed an outreach to the less fortunate in our community. Sixteen years later, the house is even older(falling apart, actually)—but the volunteers are still going strong and the need never ends.
Jesus told us we would always have the poor among us and it is our job to take care of them. At Hope House we deliver, food, clothing, diapers, soap and community to over 50 families each day. Within the first year of opening, I was asked to work as the on-site Program Manager and I have never looked back. This job inspired me to finish up my Bachelor’s degree in Human Services, and it has increased my faith a thousand-fold. I have the best job in the world, truly!
Below, you will find some blogs I have done over the years on our Hope House site. I hope you enjoy them.
On Serving at Hope House
Why is it that when everything is going well, I can still focus on the one thing going not so well?….
In our first reading at Mass last Sunday, God says “give comfort to my people”……
Sometimes God just reaches down and slaps me upside the head…….
Bill is a frequent visitor to Hope House, although he seldom accesses the services……
We are officially in the crazy time of the year at Hope House……
